Canon 5D mk2: Black Dots = Tip of Iceberg?
Okay, I can see how the black dot issue might never worry someone; it is a very specific problem that only manifests itself in very few conditions and it is difficult to notice anyways.
But THIS, well, *this* is downright suicide... "They've gone PLAID!" (Sorry, couldn't resist...)

I really hope this is 1.) A complete collaborative hoax, or 2.) Just a fluke in a small handful of first-batch cameras, or 3.) Something Canon can very easily correct.
I hope it is a QC issue and they'll fix it right away... Cause this almost takes the cake as the worst digital image artifact in DSLR history...

wow.
u're just full of good news lately!
Matt, you're just encouraging them. Dpreview's forum has all the prestige of a mall concert. C'mon, man, don't be that guy.
Sounds like bullshit, you can get this result with any ccd set to the wrong type of light, its really like the ccd is seeing the inside of its own eye.
@OwenHiggins - I sure hope it's not as bad as it looks, indeed. But the lighting conditions sure don't look like anything too stressful on the sensor; some of the other shots with the same banding are very straightforward in quite flat light.
Chances are, it's just a small batch of bad QC, and a VERY easy fix. But with the Nikon D200 banding "easy fix" that never really fixed the banding, and the Canon 1D mk3's autofocus fiasco "easy fix" that never really fixed the issue, I'll remain leery until an official verdict is put forth...
